Pokémon Red Version is a classic role-playing game developed by Game Freak and released for the Game Boy. It is one of the first Pokémon games and takes players to the Kanto region where they get to explore towns, battle Trainers, catch Pokémon and work towards becoming a Pokémon Champion. The game is a mixture of exploration, turn-based battles, Pokémon collecting and training and story progression. Players start with one starter Pokémon and build up their team by catching Pokémon in various areas. Each Pokémon has its own types, moves, strengths and weaknesses so team building is a big part of the experience.
Story
The adventure starts in Pallet Town, where Professor Oak gives the player their first Pokémon. The player chooses a starter and travels across the Kanto region to collect eight Gym Badges.
Players will meet wild Pokémon on their travels, as well as rival Trainers, Gym Leaders and the criminal organisation Team Rocket. By defeating Gym Leaders, the player unlocks new areas to explore and eventually, the Elite Four and Pokémon Champion.
The primary objective is to become the Champion and complete the Pokédex by discovering and capturing as many Pokémon as possible.
Gameplay
Battles in Pokémon Red Version are turn-based. During battle, players select moves for their Pokémon, use items, switch Pokémon, or attempt to catch wild Pokémon.
Exploring is important, fighting is important. Different Pokémon can be found in forests, caves, grasslands and water areas. Pokémon gain experience after battles and may level up, learn new moves, and evolve into more powerful forms.
In addition, the game contains Pokémon of the types Fire, Water, Grass, Electric and Psychic. Being aware of type advantages can turn tough battles into easy ones.
