Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World is a compilation of platform video games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It features Super Mario World, along with the four improved 16-bit versions of classic Mario adventures from Super Mario All-Stars, giving players a large collection of iconic Mario platforming experiences in one release.
The collection features Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Each game contains classic side-scrolling platforming gameplay, colourful environments, enemies, power-ups, secret areas, and difficult level designs.
The Super Mario All-Stars part is especially noted for its updated graphics and sound, compared to the original NES versions. Super Mario World has plenty for SNES owners to get their teeth into, with a sprawling world map of its own, new gameplay mechanics and the addition of Yoshi.
Story
The story changes from game to game as several Mario adventures are combined in this release.
The original Super Mario Bros . games follow Mario and Luigi as they journey throughout the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach from Bowser . The brothers have to cross dangerous worlds with enemies, obstacles, pits, castles and hidden passages.
Super Mario Bros. 2 is a different adventure in the mysterious world of Subcon where Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad battle enemies as they work their way through strange surroundings.
In Super Mario Bros. 3, you travel to different kingdoms. Mario and Luigi will have to go through different worlds, beat powerful enemies and finally face Bowser.
In Super Mario World, Mario and Luigi travel to Dinosaur Land after finding out that Princess Peach has disappeared. During the adventure Mario meets Yoshi and helps to free his fellow Yoshis while fighting Bowser and his forces.
Gameplay
Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World is all about the classic 2D platforming. Depending on the game, players control Mario, Luigi or other characters and must traverse horizontally scrolling stages avoiding enemies and environmental hazards.
Players can run, jump, stomp enemies, collect coins, find secret areas, and use different power ups. Each game has different levels of structure and game mechanics.
Super Mario World brings in a number of features that change the gameplay from previous Mario games. Players can select varied stages and paths on the world map, and Yoshi offers additional skills that can assist Mario in defeating enemies and obstacles.
The collection also lets players play multiple Mario games without having to swap out cartridges.
