Yoshi's Island DS is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Artoon and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. Released in 2006, it serves as a sequel to the classic Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The game expands upon the original's beloved gameplay with new baby characters, unique abilities, larger levels, and colorful visuals that perfectly capture the series' hand-drawn art style.
The adventure follows the Yoshis as they protect several magical babies destined to become legendary heroes. Each baby possesses unique powers that help players solve puzzles, defeat enemies, and explore hidden areas. Throughout the journey, players switch between different babies, including Baby Mario, Baby Peach, Baby Donkey Kong, Baby Wario, and Baby Bowser, each offering new gameplay mechanics and strategic possibilities. As players travel across forests, caves, castles, mountains, and snowy landscapes, they'll collect stars, flowers, and red coins while battling classic Mario enemies and enormous bosses.
The Nintendo DS version also introduces larger maps, new collectibles, and creative level designs that take advantage of the handheld's dual-screen display. With its charming presentation, inventive gameplay, memorable soundtrack, and excellent platforming mechanics, Yoshi's Island DS remains one of the finest family-friendly platform games on the Nintendo DS.

Story
Long before the adventures of the Mario brothers, the peaceful Yoshis discover a group of magical babies whose futures are closely connected to the destiny of the Mushroom Kingdom. An evil force led by Kamek and his allies attempts to capture these children to prevent a prophecy from coming true. The Yoshis work together to safely escort the babies across dangerous islands filled with traps, enemies, and towering castles.
Each baby provides a special ability that helps overcome obstacles and uncover hidden secrets. As the adventure unfolds, the Yoshis battle giant bosses, rescue kidnapped babies, and ultimately confront Baby Bowser and Kamek in an effort to restore peace and protect the future heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Gameplay
Yoshi's Island DS combines classic side-scrolling platforming with puzzle-solving and exploration. Players guide Yoshis through beautifully designed stages while carrying one of several baby characters. Each baby grants unique abilities that change how levels are explored and completed. Yoshi can jump, flutter through the air, swallow enemies, and transform them into eggs, which can be thrown to defeat enemies, activate switches, and collect hidden items.
Switching babies throughout the game adds variety, encouraging players to revisit levels to discover previously inaccessible secrets. Every stage contains collectible Flowers, Red Coins, and Stars, rewarding careful exploration. The game also features creative boss battles, secret levels, and increasingly complex platforming challenges that keep the adventure engaging from start to finish.
