Story
Sunset Riders tells the story of four bounty hunters, Steve, Billy, Bob and Cormano. Their job was to hunt down notorious outlaws in the Wild West and collect the bounty on their heads.
Each stage has the hunters at a different location where they have to fight their way through enemy gangs before taking on a major outlaw. It’s a tongue-in-cheek yet thrilling take on the American frontier, mixing Western movie tropes with over-the-top arcade action.
The bounty hunters continue on their quest, facing ever more dangerous enemies and bosses. By overcoming these outlaws , the hunters are able to continue their path toward the final showdown .
The story is simple but it works well with the game’s arcade-centric design. Sunset Riders tells its story through stage introductions, boss encounters, and the progression from one bounty target to the next, instead of long cutscenes.
Gameplay
Sunset Riders is a side-scrolling run and gun action game. Your character moves left to right and you shoot enemies, jump between platforms, climb structures and avoid hazards.
The game is all about quick reflexes. Enemies can come from all directions and waiting too long can leave your character surrounded quickly, so multiple directions can be dangerous for your character. So constant movement is an important part of surviving later stages.
Usually players can shoot in different directions, so they can attack enemies above, below or straight ahead. That comes in handy, especially when enemies are on rooftops, or on platforms or high structures.
