There is no traditional story line to Space Invaders. The aim is to save the planet from waves of alien invaders. Players control a laser cannon to destroy all enemies before they reach the bottom of the screen. The more aliens you kill , the faster the others move . So each wave becomes more difficult .

Space Invaders is a fixed screen arcade shooter. The player controls a laser cannon moving it left and right along the bottom of the screen and shooting up at formations of aliens coming down. Enemies crawl across the screen and float down towards the player. If they get to the bottom, the game's over. Alien Shapes The game begins each level with several rows of aliens. You destroy them one by one. This gradually reduces the formation. There are fewer aliens left, and they are moving faster, making the last enemies very hard to hit. Defence Shields Between the cannon and the aliens are defensive barriers that the player can use. These shields are slowly worn down by enemy shots and player attacks, so they are not a perfect protection, but temporary. UFOs A special UFO moves across the top of the screen periodically. It may grant bonus points for destroying it, presenting another opportunity to score for skilled players.
