Sonic Rush is a fast-paced 2D platforming game developed by Dimps in collaboration with Sonic Team, and published by SEGA for the Nintendo DS. The game was released in 2005 and was Sonic’s first new adventure on the Nintendo DS and featured fan favorite, Blaze the Cat. It fuses traditional side-scrolling gameplay with contemporary boost mechanics and dual-screen level design, and features high-speed action that makes the most of the Nintendo DS hardware. Players can choose to play as Sonic the Hedgehog or Blaze the Cat, both with their own unique story, skills and play style. The adventure takes place in beautifully designed levels filled with loops, ramps, springs, enemies and hidden paths. The game’s unique dual-screen presentation creates one long vertical playfield Sonic can race up and down at breakneck speeds between the two DS screens. Sonic Rush adds a new feature to the standard platforming gameplay, known as the Boost System, which allows the player to dash through enemies and obstacles, maintaining momentum. Stylish trick moves, exciting boss battles, and special stages for collecting Chaos Emeralds and Sol Emeralds add even more depth and replay value. With colorful visuals, smooth animations, an energetic soundtrack composed by Hideki Naganuma, and responsive controls, Sonic Rush is widely regarded as one of the best Sonic games ever released on a handheld console.
