Pokémon Conquest is a tactical role-playing game (TRPG) developed by Koei Tecmo and published by Nintendo in collaboration with The Pokémon Company for the Nintendo DS. The game, released in 2012, is a crossover of the Pokémon series and Nobunaga's Ambition, combining strategic turn-based combat, Pokémon collecting, and kingdom conquest.
The game is a new twist on the Pokémon formula, set in the magical Ransei Region. Players are not the usual Pokemon Trainers but young Warlords who wish to unite the seventeen kingdoms of Ransei. Throughout the journey, players will unlock mighty Warlords, forge powerful connections with Pokémon, and engage in grid-based battles that require strategic thinking and smart positioning as much as Pokémon power.
Unlike the mainline Pokémon games, battles take place on custom-designed maps, filled with environmental hazards, obstacles and special terrain effects. Different kingdoms feature different challenges, types of Pokémon and strategies, encouraging players to meticulously build balanced teams that can tackle a variety of different opponents.
Pokémon Conquest features over 200 Pokémon, dozens of Warlords to recruit, multiple post-game stories, and deep strategic gameplay, and is often considered one of the most original and underrated Pokémon spin-offs ever made.
