Story

Knights of the Round follows the legendary story of King Arthur and his quest to become a great ruler. The game is based on the Arthurian legends and takes the player on a journey through a medieval kingdom full of dangerous warriors, rival knights, and powerful enemies. Arthur starts his adventures as a young fighter, who has to prove his strength and courage. Alongside his companions Lancelot and Percival, he battles enemy forces that threaten the kingdom. They march through forests, villages, castles, enemy strongholds, fighting foes that get tougher and tougher. As the adventure progresses, the three knights become stronger and more experienced. Their ultimate mission is to defeat the forces standing in their way and establish a peaceful kingdom under Arthur's leadership. Although the game presents its story through relatively simple scenes and gameplay progression, its medieval atmosphere and legendary characters provide a strong foundation for the action.

Gameplay

Knights of the Round features classic side-scrolling beat 'em up gameplay. Players move through stages while fighting groups of enemies using swords, powerful attacks, and defensive techniques. The point is to defeat the other guys, to live through each stage and to defeat the hard bosses. Players can choose between three characters: Arthur, Lancelot, and Percival. Each character has a different fighting style, attack power and movement speed. Arthur offers balanced combat, Lancelot focuses on speed and agility, while Percival relies on powerful attacks. One of the game's distinctive features is its character progression system. The more enemies a player kills and the more experience they gather, the higher their character levels up, their appearance, weapons and fighting skills improve. This progression makes later stages more manageable while giving players a sense of advancement. The game also includes a blocking mechanic that allows players to defend against incoming attacks. Learning when to attack, block, or reposition is important, especially when surrounded by multiple enemies. The arcade version features co-op play, letting friends battle their way through the campaign. The SNES version brings the game to the home console, with tweaked support for multiplayer.
