Story
The Need for Speed (original) differs from the modern Need for Speed games in that it doesn't have a traditional story campaign. Instead it’s about the thrill of racing and the experience of driving high performance sports cars.
Players pick their favourite vehicle and go through a number of road courses, all while trying to get the fastest time they can. Some races are tougher due to police encounters or traffic.
Gameplay
The game is more about realistic racing and less about arcade-style drifting. All cars have different handling, acceleration, braking and top speed.
You can race on several different road types such as coastal highways, mountain routes, city streets and country roads. Then you can have police cars, too, during the races, which adds a little more excitement.
One of the most arresting features of the game is its automotive detail. The influence of Road & Track magazine helped present vehicle information and statistics to make the game more of an authentic driving experience.
