Story
The story follows a player-created street fighter who becomes embroiled in the underground fighting scene in New York. You win battles, earn money, respect and build your rep, becoming more and more involved in the struggle for control of the city's hip-hop underworld.
You’ll be able to upgrade and customise your character throughout the campaign, unlocking new abilities, purchasing clothes and accessories, and learning additional fighting styles.
Gameplay
What sets Def Jam: Fight for NY apart is the fighting system. Fights aren’t restricted to standard punches and kicks, but include wrestling moves, submissions, throws, environmental attacks, weapons and crowd interactions.
Different fighting styles require different strategies. Wrestling is more about the grapples and throws. Kickboxing is more about striking. Street Fighting is all about powerful attacks, Martial Arts is all about technical moves, and Submission Fighting is all about wearing them down.
The arenas are also interactive, so fighters can use their surroundings to their advantage. In Nintendo's official GameCube blurb, the game is praised for its interactive scenery, weapons, multiple fighting styles and character creation system.
