Tamagotchi brings the classic virtual-pet experience to the Nintendo Game Boy. This simulation game, released in 1997, allows you to hatch, raise, train and care for your very own Tamagotchi. The Game Boy version offers you more flexibility than the original handheld toy, allowing you to raise up to three Tamagotchis, change their growth speed, play different mini-games and compete in tournaments. The game starts with an egg that hatches into a Tamagotchi. From there it’s up to you to keep your virtual pet healthy, happy and well trained. You can feed it, give it medicine, clean up after it, play games with it and discipline it when it's needed.

Story

In Tamagotchi, a small alien creature comes from outer space inside a mysterious egg. You take an egg from the lab, and it hatches and is your responsibility. Your aim is to raise the Tamagotchi from its infancy to a healthy adult. Its development depends on how well you take care of it. Your animal's progress is influenced by the right diet, grooming, playing, training and treatment.

Gameplay

The main gameplay focuses on the care of your virtual pet. You need to watch for its needs and respond when it needs attention. The Game Boy version builds on the original Tamagotchi idea by letting players raise three Tamagotchis at once. You can also adjust their speed of growth, which allows for a more flexible experience than the real-time original toy. There is also a choice of mini-games, each designed to develop a different aspect of your Tamagotchi: Smile Game: Guess what your Tamagotchi will look like. Study Game: Answer simple math questions. Sports Game: Catch falling baseballs to increase your physical fitness. The game also includes tournaments where your Tamagotchi can compete in Race, Beauty and Knowledge events. Your pet can earn his place in the Hall of Fame as he wins tournaments.
